A Bit About Me

Sam is a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, as well as a Professional Art Therapist with the Canadian Art Therapy Association. She has engaged in therapeutic work with individuals, groups, and communities in both Winnipeg and Vancouver, where she completed her Masters in Counselling Psychology Art Therapy at Adler University.

Sam’s approach to treatment is rooted in a foundation of dialectical behavior therapy, art therapy, and contemplative practice. With a large emphasis on the brain-body connection, Sam works with individuals experiencing distress to increase their sense of stability, strength, and safety prior to engaging in any deeper process work. Following the wisdom of the mind, body, and spirit, Sam allows the client to lead their own healing journey. Sam’s work emphasizes a trauma-informed, attachment-focused, strengths-based, client-centered style of care, often engaging harm reduction principles when appropriate.

These pathways often work well for children, adolescents, adults, and older adults who are experiencing distress from any number of causes, be they mental health illness, mental health injury, unexpected or stressful life events, and any challenging circumstances that may lead to hindering or problematic coping behaviors. Sam believes in the innate potential of all people to create the lives that they feel are most meaningful for them, and that leading with acceptance and compassion can often make the heavy lifting of change-oriented work much lighter.
